We all know that in face to face classrooms, disruptive students
can be difficult and that there are skillful ways to manage them. Is the
same thing true in online classrooms? Do the same techniques work online
as in face to face? Can our experience and wisdom translate?
This session will be a Forum - a guided shared/mutual exploration of Disruptive Student Behavior in online courses - sharing examples from our own experience, making them up, raising questions together.
We already have one major recommendation: It's important to clarify students’ expected
specific civil behaviors of fellow students and of teacher via discussion
[synch or asynch] - including instructor’s own strong restrictions,
include (emphasize) positive behaviors similar to “giving [almost] 100%”
NOTE:
Login instructions for the session will be sent in
the Registration Confirmation Email. Please check your Junk folder as sometimes
these emails get trapped there. We will also send an additional login reminder
24 hours prior to the start of the event.
