April: Communities of Conscious Design: Planting and Pruning Your Way to an Effective Online Community

Date: Thursday, April 18th, 2013 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm ET
Duration: 60 mi
Sponsor: Blended Librarian Online Community
Building an online community works in a similar way to growing a garden.  You plant a seed (provide an online platform), water and feed (engage and share with larger communities) and you will develop some sort of community.  It will not however, be what you envision if you are not willing to weed and prune it.  By this I mean moderate and, if necessary, limit who can join and get rid of the rabble rousers.  Part of facilitating and managing a community is keeping it focused and you cannot do this with flame wars erupting weekly.
Join your Blended Librarian Online Community co-hosts, Steven Bell and John Shank, and their guest speaker for this webcast Naomi House, Founder, Editor & Publisher for  INALJ.com (I Need A Library Job), as she shares practical insights for building and sustaining an online community. House will also address how Blended Librarian skills could help librarians to explore new opportunities in the job market, as she describes how INALJ is helping expand and educate information professionals about the wide variety of positions we have or can learn the necessary skills to succeed.
