Feb/Mar: Connect, Create, Collaborate: Supporting Teen Needs with Technology (YALSA)

Monday, February 3, 2014 - Monday, March 17, 2014

Over the past several years, technology has not only become a part of the every day life experience of teens, but it's also an integral part of the lives of the librarians that serve the age group. From Twitter to Vine and from coding to website creation, librarians and teens are using tech tools to connect, create, collaborate, and consume. Yet, for many librarians, technology remains an add-on to teen services and is not yet considered an integral part of service to adolescents.

In this course, participants will learn why teens need librarians to integrate technology into every aspect of service from homework help to readers advisory to programming. They will also learn how libraries can integrate technology into the services they provide by using a wide-range of tools and devices including mobile technology and content creation hardware and software. Participants will complete the course knowing how, through technology integration, librarians can help teens to succeed in problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, and learning.
