Thirty two percent of the approximately 21 million college students were taking at least one online course in 2011 (Allen & Seaman, 2013). Most accrediting agencies stipulate that library services available to on-campus students must be made available to online students. This four week course will discuss ways librarians may embed their skills in the virtual campus through its learning management system through the use of portal tabs, blocks, eReserves, knowledge bases, and student/faculty orientations. Discussion will turn to transferring bibliographic instruction into the online class through the use of team teaching, guest lecturing, and conducting synchronous workshops. The session concludes with an examination of the librarian as both a subject matter liaison and copyright point person during the design and development of online courses. This course is relevant to instruction librarians, outreach librarians, and embedded librarians who seek ways to infuse library resources and services to their growing virtual campuses.

Embedded librarianship can include team teaching a course, becoming an important part of a local film/art/music festival, or integration of library resources into a school curriculum or an organization’s event. This course will discuss best practices and tools for working as an embedded librarian. We will explore how to initiate a collaborative relationship with faculty or community organizations, and also teach you how to partner with them for better student or event success. Participants will learn how to improve relationships with faculty and organizations and become an integral part of the curriculum, event, or program of study. We will also discuss how to use emerging technologies in embedded librarianship as communication and collaborative tools.

This webcast addresses how librarians can collaborate with academic and non-academic partners to support and connect with international students through various programming and outreach services. The speaker will discuss the importance of outreach services and embedded librarianship in developing student engagement and success. Learn how to identify key groups to collaborate with on campus and create an outreach strategy to support international groups. In addition, the speaker will discuss various collaborative programs and the latest apps and social media tools to promote the library's resources and services and to connect with international students. During the presentation, there will be a series of questions, polls and surveys for participants to think about, to answer or to discuss. Questions involving social media strategy, outreach plans and collaborations may get users to think about these features in their embedded librarianship model. The speaker will also encourage audience members to use "tweet" their questions or ideas while using the hashtag #acrl_elearning to keep another set of ideas and conversations flowing.

June-July-August: Library Juice Academy classes
Below is a list of the classes we are offering this
summer at Library Juice Academy. These are online classses, mostly four weeks
in length. They are taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the
work on their own time, though some classes have optional live chat sessions
included. These classes are geared toward librarians, but other library staff
members may benefit from them as well. Registration for a four-week class is
$175. For those librarians who need CEUs to document their continuing education,
our four-week classes earn 1.5 CEUs. Participants can pay with a credit card,
or have their institution issue us a purchase order. Discounts are available
when registering multiple participants.
